Dining at Botín was more than just a meal, it was an experience I'll never forget. Knowing we were eating at the oldest restaurant in the world, recognized by Guinness World Records, made every moment feel that much more special. We ordered the famous roasted suckling pig, and it absolutely lived up to the reputation. The skin was perfectly crisp, the meat was incredibly tender, and every bite was full of flavor. You can truly tell this recipe has been perfected over centuries. The atmosphere transports you back in time. From the historic dining rooms and beautiful décor to watching the jamón being carved, every detail adds to the magic. The service was warm, attentive, and made us feel welcomed from the moment we walked in. If you're visiting Madrid, Botín is a must. It's not just about the food, it's about experiencing a piece of history. This was one of the most memorable dining experiences of our trip, and I would happily return again. Ps. Be sure to make reservations in advance!

Sobrino de Botín with the title of "Oldest Restaurant in the World" — it is a legendary institution with a strong claim to that fame. According to the Guinness World Records, Sobrino de Botín, founded in 1725, is recognized as the oldest restaurant in the world that has been in continuous operation. It has even survived wars and a global pandemic without closing its doors for long. Here is what makes this Madrid icon so special: A Legacy of History & Fire * The Unbroken Flame: The restaurant's wood-fired oven has been burning continuously since 1725. Legend has it that the fires have never been extinguished, surviving through Napoleon's invasion and the Spanish Civil War. * Historic Setting: Located on Calle de Cuchilleros near the Plaza Mayor, the building itself dates back to 1590. The low ceilings, wooden beams, and crooked stairways transport you back in time. * Literary Fame: Ernest Hemingway was a regular here. He famously featured the restaurant in his novel The Sun Also Rises, where the characters eat roast suckling pig. The restaurant even claims that Francisco Goya once worked here as a dishwasher. Must-Try Dishes If you visit (or if you are curious about its cuisine), here are the specialties that have defined its menu for centuries: * Cochinillo Asado (Roast Suckling Pig): The signature dish. The skin is incredibly crispy, and the meat is tender and flavorful. * Cordero Asado (Roast Suckling Lamb): Another house specialty, slow-roasted to perfection in the ancient oven. * Traditional Castilian Soup: A hearty soup to start your meal. It is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Madrid who wants to taste history.

We got sat in the basement right next to the kitchen so it was a lot of foot traffic, humid, and tight. I was expecting the food to taste good because the prices are high, but it was all either bland or salty. The servers are nice and attentive. Parking is kind of hard to find and we walked about 15minutes from our car to the restaurant. It’s just nice to be able to say I’ve been to the oldest restaurant, but food is sub-par in my and my family’s opinion.

It's the oldest restaurant in the world, and it's definitely a bit of a tourist trap, but it is a really cool experience. We did the tour beforehand, which I highly recommend. Following the tour we had an incredible lunch which included many of the highlights of the menu. The suckling pig was the of course the star. We also tried the lamb, which to be honest was kind of disappointing because there was very little meat.

I couldn’t find reservation so we just walked in , and we got a table which was nice surprise, as I was so excited to try the oldest restaurant in the world and they are celebrating there 300 years anniversary I had very high expectation for this restaurant as I read the history and a lot of promises about the experience. However, the food was very, very average. And pricey for the quality nothing was special about the dishes. I had excellent experiences in Madrid. Every single dish we have can easily be done by any sous Chef ! So disappointing There wasn’t any touch of taste in any of the dishes just average Home style food but pricy Not worth your time and money Madrid is full of great food and experiences
